Nostalgia #20: My Sister's Wedding

My sister had her church wedding in the Philippines few days ago. Yes I feel so nostalgic not being there. It was just me and my family that were not there. The whole family including the ones that worked abroad were home for the wedding. I wish we were there but we just can't!

These are all my sisters and brothers
I think I need a mermaid outfit so that I can paste my picture in the feet area, what ya think?

This is the whole family.
Tatay and Nanang with all their sons and daughters with their husbands and wives plus all the grandchildren in the family.

Apartment renovations

Guest post written by Scott Brewer

When I finally bought my apartment, it was a fixer upper. But it's in an up and coming neighborhood in Manhattan, which means that I could sell it and make a really good profit off of it in a few years, that is if I don't just decided to stay there after all.

When I bought it and started figuring out what I wanted to do I had some construction people knock out a wall and start working on putting in some hardwood floors. But while they were doing all of this I was also living there because the lease on my apartment had ended. So I also had to set up some utilities too so I could actually live normally even though there were people coming in and out of my apartment all the time. I found a great Internet and decided to CLICK on it and get it.

I was so glad to have the Internet to entertain and keep me busy because I couldn't really use my living room to do it.

They finally finished up the renovations and I'm really enjoying my place now. It looks so different from the apartment that I paid for.

Favorite Robin Williams Film

I am a big fan of Robin Williams. Though there are some films of his that are disappointing to me, yet I never stopped watching his films. I watched a lot of good movies from him which includes, Goodwill Hunting, Mrs. Doubtfire, Patch Adams and a lot more.

For this week, I wanna feature Insomnia.

A psychological thriller centering on Will Dormer, a veteran LAPD detective who travels to a small Alaskan town with his partner Hap to investigate the disturbing murder of a seventeen year-old girl. Under the glare of the region's perpetual daylight, Dormer and Hap close in on the primary suspect, reclusive novelist Walter Finch. During a tense stakeout on a rocky, fog-shrouded beach, Finch slips into the mist and out of Dormer's grasp. As he makes his escape, shots ring out and Hap is killed. As he struggles to cope with his sense of responsibility and remorse over his partner's death, Dormer is forced into a psychological game of cat-and-mouse by the brilliantly malevolent Finch. The stakes escalate as Dormer contends with an unproven but perceptive local cop and becomes increasingly entangled in Finch's web of manipulation. Unable to find respite from the relentless Midnight Sun or his own distorted judgment, the dangerously sleep-deprived detective finds his stability gravely threatened.

A Mini Series with Major Drama

Thanks for the post from Al Mills

My favorite TV mini series is The Last Don, which was a mini series based on a book by Mario Puzo, the same author as the Godfather series. This TV series was no where near the level of The Godfather movies but it was still highly entertaining and very much like a soap opera.

The movie is centered around Cross De Lena, played by the very handsome actor Jason Gederick, which to be honest was the original reason I tuned my Cannon Satellite to this series. The story line follows Cross from childhood, growing up as the son of a mafia soldier to the powerful Clericuzio family, all the way to adulthood when he becomes the unlikely leader of the family. Kristy Alley plays the scorned and emotionally unbalanced daughter of "Don" Clericuzio, blaming her father for the murder of her first love, the son of a rival family, but not before she becomes pregnant. Her son grows up to be a ruthless killer perfectly suited for mafia life and desperate to run the family business. When things don't go his way and Cross gains more and more control within the family, their rivalry turns deadly.

Of course this series has drawn all kinds of criticism for it's obvious comparisons to The Godfather story line, but can it be a rip-off when it is written by the same author? Of course nothing compares to The Godfather in terms of classic mafia movies, but The Last Don can hold it's own.

Best Wines

While I was at the grocery store yesterday, I checked their wines because I am looking for a white wine. I always have a white wine because I like cooking recipes with white wine on it. It is amazing to note that even wine prices have gone up high too. I have noticed that not all grocery stores carry the brands that I like.

I found a good website that sells the Best Cheap Wine. Plonk Wine Merchants is the ultimate online destination for best value wines. They have wines that are not sold in most retail stores. Finding the best wine for an affordable price is very easy at Plonk Wine Merchants because you can easily search and explore the different wine regions.

I am lucky that Andrea is not a picky eater. She eats all kinds of meat which is for her is always "chicken". Whether it is a steak, pork chop or bacon... they are all the same it is chicken! She eats rice in everything, she if filipino afterall! She eats a lot of fruits. She loves strawberry, apple, banana, watermelon, cantaloupe, and more. She eats and drinks a lot of yogurt too!

For her "unhealthy" treats...we give her ice cream, a few chocolates, and some cake...

This is a picture of Andrea eating some cheerios which she calls "Donuts"

The Office

Content by Mac Kline

It might be cliche to admit it now, but one of my favorite sitcoms is - and has been for quite some time - The Office. It's one of those popular shows that everyone knows and everyone has an opinion about, especially considering the somewhat questionable turns of the latest few seasons (like the star, Steve Carell, choosing to exit the show at the end of the current season). But I still love it. It's been my comfort tv for many years now, and I can't abandon it after six seasons.

My tradition for watching The Office is almost as important as the show itself - I change into my pajamas, grab the remote and some popcorn, and plop down with direct tv north carolina, and not even a tsunami can move me once I'm settled. The characters are like old friends; I'm so familiar with the titular office that I could work there.

It may not be everyone's cup of tea anymore, but The Office still means something to me and I don't even want to think about the day it leaves the air for good.

Nostalgia #19: Ave Maria Grotto

The Ave Maria Grotto is located in Cullman, Alabama. It is over an hour drive from where I live and I had a chance to visit it when I was new here. The place is really impressive. It is a Jerusalem in Miniature.

I want to go back there someday....

Kitchen Painting

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Glidden. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have told my husband that my next project is to buy a new chest freezer. My plans for buying a freezer will mean rearranging our kitchen and because we need to rearrange things, might as well paint the whole kitchen to give it a new look. Now we are facing a dilemma. What color should we paint the kitchen with? We don't want white for sure. We think of painting it with the same color that we paint in our living room but we are not sure that it will look good on our kitchen.

One of my friends suggested to check out Glidden Paints. She gave me the website and I admit it is fascinating. I am glad to find out that find Glidden’s inexpensive paint testers can be find in any Home Depot location. Glidden's paint testers are in every color. They also have it XL color chips with coordinating color ideas. They also provide pictures to inspire your project which is really helpful especially if you are unsure about your project. I really like the Glidden’s paint testers because they have a handy brush included in the lid. With Glidden's tester it will allow you to try out the actual paint color before you commit to buying all the paint necessary for your project. This is few of the reasons why we decided to use Glidden paints in painting our kitchen.

If you need a quality paint for your project visit Glidden's website at http://bit.ly/bjLb2u.

TCP: Favorite Susan Sarandon Movie

Who can forget Susan Sarandon's role as Louise Elizabeth Sawyer in Thelma and Louise? Her role was performed so well that she won:
  • David di Donatello Award for Best Foreign Actress
  • London Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress
  • National Board of Review Award for Best Actress
She was also:
Nominated—Academy Award for Best Actress
Nominated—BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role
Nominated—Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress

I really liked the movie that is why it is my entry for this week's Tuesday Couch Potatoes.

Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis star as accidental outlaws on a desperate flight across the Southwest after a tragic incident at a roadside bar. With a determined detective (Harvey Keitel) on their trail, a sweet-talking hitchhiker (Brad Pitt) in their path and a string of crimes in their wake, their journey alternates between hilarious, high-speed thrill ride and empowering personal odyssey even as the law closes in.

The Experience of The Thorn Bird

Guest written by our friend Donnie Donovan

One of the best dramatic mini -series that I have ever seen on my tv from www.direc4u.com would have to be The Thorn Birds. This amazing work came from the imagination of Colleen McCullough's book for the same title. Although this mini-series was produced a number of years ago, the drama, pageantry and beauty of the areas used for filming are still as riveting and breathtaking today as it was when it was first introduced.

The Thorn Birds begins in 1920's Australia and follows the lives of Father Ralph DeBrickasar, a Catholic priest who presides over a small parish that is largely supported by Mary Carson, the owner of Drageeda, the largest and richest sheep ranch in Australia. Into this story enters Paddy Cleary, Mary's brother, and his family, including Meggie, the only daughter. Mary brings her brother and his family to her ranch to help her run the enterprise since they are the only relatives she has.

The story follows the lives of these characters that become so closely intertwined, especially those of Meggie and Father Ralph. The story shows you the lives of the characters spanning more than 50 years, from Meggie's childhood to the death of her only son and marriage of her only daughter. The most intriguing part of the story is the relationship between Meggie and Father Ralph, from her childhood to his death.

Clogged Sink and Light Problems

My kitchen sink is clogged. We already bought some quick fix for clogging. We actually did it twice but we still cant fixed it. On top of the clogged sink, the light in Andrea's room is not working. Since we can't fix any of them, we decided to call for help.

Helped came today and everything is fixed. The light in Andrea's room has a short circuit in it but after few minutes of electrical works, it worked now. The sink is doing good too. I can now washed my pots and pans. I hate having a clogged sink because I can't clean up and do what I want to do.

I explained to the maintenance guy what we did with the plunger because we also bought a new plunger just for the sink but what we did was wrong he explained how to do it with two plungers. Oh well... it make sense but for now it is working perfectly and I can now resume to cooking some "good food" ... I know it has nothing to do with cooking but hey when you prepare food you need your sink right?

New Car

My mother in law excitedly call me few days ago telling me that she has a new car! Wow, what a nice surprise! I am excited for her too and I can't wait to ride on it for our shopping trips! I jokingly asked my mother-in-law if her new car is a volkswagen jetta because we always thought that owning a volkswagen is a very cool idea. Her car is not volkswagen, it is a corolla. She wanted to have some sort of wagon or an SUV perhaps something like a mitsubishi outlander but when she checked the gas mileage of this car she was not impressed with it that is why she ended up buying the corolla.

After they got Mom's new car, they shopped right away for a car insurance. Good thing that they are already aware that there are websites that offer cheap car insurance rate. They got a good deal with the insurance that they got because they have more than 2 cars so they got a little privilege. They told me that when I will have a car of my own, I need to check out the cheap car insurance for young drivers. They believed that I might be able to qualify for that since I will be a new driver. I will see to it that I will check it when the time comes.
